What are the rules for a flexi-job in 2025?
Fancy earning some extra cash in 2025 without too much hassle? A flexi-job might just be the thing for you! Whether you already have a job, are retired or simply want a bit more breathing room in your wallet, with a flexi-job you work at your own pace and without much in the way of taxes. But how exactly does it work in 2025? At AnyShift.be we explain it to you in plain terms. Come on, let's get started!
Flexi-jobs in 2025: more choice than ever
Good news is on the way! Under the new government of Bart De Wever I, flexi-jobs are getting a serious boost in 2025. From now on, all sectors can take part through an 'opt-out' system. That means every joint committee decides for itself whether it wants flexi-jobs. Which sectors exactly are on board we don't yet know, but it looks like there will be more options.
And here's something else nice: the maximum you can earn tax-free (for those who are not retired) goes from 12,000 euros to 18,000 euros per year. With AnyShift.be you land a flexi-job that suits you in no time. Curious how it works? Here come the rules!
Why try a flexi-job?
Briefly, what makes a flexi-job so great?
- Extra pocket money: Earning more without the taxman taking a bite? Yes please!
- Trying something new: Test out a different job, just for the fun of it.
- Meeting people: Especially for those who are retired, a great way to stay active.
Who is allowed to do a flexi-job in 2025?
Not everyone can just get started, but it's not that hard. Here's what you need to know:
-
Already have a job? Then you can add this on!
Do you already work at least 4/5 (80%) of a full-time job? Then you may take on a flexi-job on top! The only condition: you must have already worked that 4/5 for three quarters beforehand with another employer. For example:
- Want to start in May 2025? Then you must already have worked 4/5 from August to October 2024.
-
Cutting back your hours?
Are you going from full-time to 4/5 and want a flexi-job on top? You can, but you'll have to be a bit patient. From the third quarter after your switch, you have to wait two quarters. Let's say:
- You start 4/5 on 1 January 2025. Then you can do flexi-job work until September 2025, but from October 2025 to March 2026 it's a short break. After that you can go full steam again!
-
Retired and keen to work?
For pensioners it's super simple! Are you officially retired (by age or having worked 45 years)? Then you can start right away, with no limit on your earnings. For those who stopped earlier:
- Did you work 4/5 or more before your retirement? Start straight away!
- Less than 4/5? Wait two quarters after your retirement.
How much does it pay?
What you earn depends on where you work:
- Minimum wage: You always get at least the minimum for your sector. In hospitality that is 12.53 euros per hour in 2025 (with 7.67% holiday pay on top).
- Maximum wage: Up to 150% of that minimum (extras not included), unless your sector says otherwise.
- How much may you earn? Without a pension? Up to 18,000 euros tax-free. Above that you pay a little extra. With a pension? No limit, go for it!
Keep track of your earnings easily with the flexi-counter on MyCareer.be, which we and other employers always keep up to date.
