Flexi-job at the weekend or in the evening: how to find shifts in your city in 2026

"Flexi-job weekend", "flexi-job Saturday", "flexi-job Sunday" and "flexi-job evening": together with a city name, these are the most typed searches by flexi-jobbers in Flanders and Brussels. That makes sense, because anyone with a permanent job of at least four-fifths can only earn extra outside office hours. In 2026 a flexi-job in hospitality pays at least 12.11 euros per hour, plus 7.67 percent flexi holiday pay, fully free of social security and tax up to a ceiling of 18,440 euros a year. On Sundays and at night a premium comes on top in most sectors. Who can do a flexi-job at the weekend?

The conditions for a weekend shift are the same as for any flexi-job. In the third quarter before your flexi-job (reference quarter T-3) you must have worked at least four-fifths with one or more other employers, or you are retired. Anyone who wants to start in October, November or December 2026 must therefore have worked at least 80 percent in the first quarter of 2026. You may not do a flexi-job with the employer you are already under contract with, and since 1 July 2026 it is possible in almost all sectors, including care, education and public administration.

What do you earn with a weekend or evening shift?

In hospitality the minimum flexi hourly wage has been 12.11 euros per hour since 1 September 2026, or 13.04 euros including the 7.67 percent flexi holiday pay that is paid out at the same time. The maximum in hospitality is 23.06 euros per hour including holiday pay. In other sectors the sector scale for the role applies, often between 13 and 16 euros per hour.

If you work on a Sunday, you get a Sunday premium of 2 euros per hour in hospitality, with a maximum of 12 euros a day. If you work at night between midnight and 5 a.m., 1.62 euros per hour comes on top. Those premiums are also tax-free, but they do count towards your annual ceiling of 18,440 euros. A Saturday evening of 6 hours at 14 euros therefore pays 90 euros net, a Sunday shift of 8 hours at 14 euros plus Sunday premium about 126 euros. Antwerp: hospitality at the Zuid, Sunday shopping and nights

Antwerp has the most weekend and evening shifts of all Flemish cities. The bars and restaurants around the Zuid, the Eilandje, the Grote Markt and Central Station run at full speed on Friday and Saturday evenings and look for waiting, bar and dishwashing staff from 5 p.m. On the Sunday openings in the centre, and every Sunday during the sales and the year-end period, the shops on the Meir look for sales assistants and cashiers for Sunday shifts from noon to 6 p.m.

If you would rather work nights: the warehouses around the port and the bakeries in the districts look for night crews, and that is exactly where the night premium comes on top. Ghent: student city with a grown-up hospitality scene

Ghent has one of the densest hospitality concentrations in the country, and those businesses look for reinforcements precisely at the weekend. Brasseries in the Patershol, cafés on the Vrijdagmarkt and the Overpoort and hotels on the Korenmarkt look for waiting and bar staff on Friday and Saturday evenings, and breakfast and banquet staff on Sundays. Outside hospitality, the shops in the Veldstraat are open on Sunday openings, and the events at Flanders Expo and the Ghelamco Arena ask for catering and reception on match and fair days. Brussels: hotels, evening shifts and the airport

In Brussels the evening and weekend shifts are concentrated around the hotels and hospitality in the centre, the European quarter and Avenue Louise. Hotels mainly look for banquet and breakfast staff for the weekend, when business travellers leave and city trippers arrive. Restaurants around the Grand-Place and Sainte-Catherine look for evening waiting staff.

Zaventem airport is the largest employer in the region and looks for weekend staff for shops, hospitality and baggage handling. Do count on a badge procedure and training beforehand. Mechelen: weekend hospitality, hotels and the outskirts

Mechelen is compact but has a surprisingly large weekend market for flexi-jobbers. The bars and restaurants on the Grote Markt and the Vismarkt run mainly on Friday and Saturday evenings, and the hotels on the edge of town along the motorway look for weekend staff for breakfast, banquets and bar. On home matches of the football club the stadium looks for catering staff.

That makes Bruges the city with the most Sunday shifts in retail: chocolatiers, bakers, souvenir shops and clothing shops in the centre look for Sunday staff. In Ostend the weekend shifts follow the rhythm of the coast. From March to October and during the Christmas break, the brasseries, hotels and beach bars on the sea wall look for waiting staff, kitchen help and dishwashers every weekend. The Kursaal and the event venues look for reception and catering on concert and show evenings, and the casinos and cinemas run on Saturday evenings.

Hasselt is the shopping city of Limburg, and the search "flexijob hasselt 1 dag per week" shows that many people in Limburg want a fixed Saturday shift. The clothing shops and department stores in the Demerstraat and the Koning Albertstraat and the shopping centres on the outskirts look for Saturday and Sunday-opening staff. The bars and restaurants on the Grote Markt and the Kanaalkom look for waiting and bar staff on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Practical: contract, Dimona and checking your premiums

For a flexi-job you sign a written framework agreement with the employer once, and per shift or period a flexi-job employment contract, which may be oral. Your employer declares every shift with a Dimona FLX. With an oral contract that happens per day with start and end time, and your employer must record your hours. Five tips for anyone who can only work weekends or evenings

• Open up a fixed day. Employers prefer someone who comes every Saturday to someone who shows up now and then. A fixed shift also brings more hours.
• Deliberately choose Sunday and night. With the premiums you earn 15 to 20 percent more for the same work.
• Combine sectors. Hospitality on Friday evening, retail on Saturday, a hotel breakfast on Sunday: that fills a weekend without overloading one employer.
• Keep an eye on your ceiling. 18,440 euros a year is reached quickly with two shifts a week and premiums. Above the ceiling you pay ordinary tax.
• Look beyond your own city. Bruges and Ostend have more Sunday shifts, Antwerp and Brussels more evening shifts. Twenty minutes of driving can make the difference.

Frequently asked questions about a flexi-job at the weekend

Can I work every Sunday as a flexi-jobber?

Yes, as long as the sector allows Sunday work. That is the case in hospitality, tourist centres and the events sector. You then get the sector Sunday premium on top of your flexi pay.

Is a weekend flexi-job tax-free?

Yes, up to 18,440 euros a year in 2026. The flexi pay, the holiday pay and the premiums are free of social security and tax. Anything you earn above the ceiling is taxed.

Can I work one fixed Saturday a week as a flexi-jobber?

Yes. Many employers look for exactly that. You sign one framework agreement and then work the same day every week, with a Dimona per week.

Can I do a flexi-job in the shop where my partner works?

Yes, as long as you do not have an employment contract there yourself. The ban applies to your own employer and companies in the same group, not your partner's.
